📚 How I Personalize My Images to Reflect a Unique Style
Do you want to learn how to personalize your MidJourney images? This tutorial will guide you through the process of personalizing your model, making the results more likely to align with your unique style.
Understanding MidJourney's Aesthetics
Until recently, using MidJourney required making two major aesthetic decisions. You could either choose which model to use and rely on MidJourney's default aesthetics, tweaking them with parameters, or use a style reference (--sref
). If you opted for the default aesthetics, you would add the --stylize
parameter with a value between 0 and 1000 to determine how much of MidJourney's own style to apply to your image. Alternatively, you could use the --style
raw parameter to apply different styles.
However, with recent updates, you now have the ability to personalize your own model to reflect your individual style in the images. This means you can fine-tune the AI model to match your artistic preferences more closely. Say hello to the personalization parameter --p
.
First, Let’s Train the Model
To train the model on your preferences, follow these steps:
Go to the Tasks Section: Navigate to the tasks section (👍 icon) where you will find the ranking option.
Choose Your Preferences: You will be presented with two images and need to choose the one you prefer from a visual aesthetics perspective. This helps train the model on your preferences.
💡You need at least 200 pair rankings for the personalization feature to work effectively. You can see your total ranking count in the tasks section.
What Exactly is the Personalization Parameter?
This parameter is linked to a unique and personal code. Once you append --p
to the end of the prompt, this code appears in your creation history. It reflects your personal style and can be shared with others if you want them to replicate your style. You can also use a code that has been shared with you. However, keep in mind that both your own codes and those of others will change as the owner of the code rates more images.
Using Personalization
Add to the End of the Prompt: Enter your prompt in the input field, adding --p
along with other parameters if desired. Default Personalization: You can turn on default personalization by navigating to the settings and selecting personalization. This will make personalization the default for all your prompts. Comparing Results
To see the impact of personalization, you can compare results with and without the --p
parameter:
Comparison of personalized and non-personalized generations
Without Personalization: Run a prompt without the --p
parameter to see the default output. With Personalization: Run the same prompt with the --p
parameter to see how the images align more closely with your style. The main difference is that with personalization, the images tend to reflect your unique style, such as being more cinematic or minimalistic.
Where to Go from Here?
MidJourney is incredibly powerful and versatile when it comes to customizing its generation process. In addition to using --p
, you can combine it with style reference codes or images used as style references. Yes, I mean images, plural. You can blend as many --sref
codes or style reference images together with the personalization parameter as you like.
If you're not entirely satisfied with how the personalization parameter influences your creations, you can experiment with the --stylized
parameter. This parameter controls the extent of personalization applied to the image. A stylized value of 0 turns off personalization, while a value of 100 is the default. You can also max out the value to 1000 to significantly increase the impact of personalization on the final image. For even more variety, consider adding the --chaos
parameter. Introducing a chaos value brings more diversity to the shots, resulting in varied and interesting images.
--stylize 1000 vs --stylize 0
By following these steps, you can personalize your MidJourney images to better reflect your unique artistic style. Experiment with different parameters to see what works best for you.
